Shorebird Conservation Case Studies

The case studies were selected from around Australia by a National Shorebird Conservation Taskforce to showcase success stories in shorebird conservation, as well as increase awareness about a range of threats to shorebirds and illustrate how these threats are being addressed.

Threats included:

  • loss of habitat
  • human disturbance
  • introduced pests
  • lack of awareness and understanding
  • conflicting land use

The case studies included projects such as:

  • fox and dog control
  • wetland restoration and management
  • creation of artificial habitat
  • shorebird and Hooded Plover Recovery Programs
  • developing management strategies
  • consensus building and conflict resolution among stakeholders
